Zappos.com is proud to offer the Movies and TV - Warner Gangsters Collection 2 (6 Disc) (One Color) - Electronics: Tough guys, dames, and derringers all figure in the collection of gangster films from Warner Bros. James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson are among the classic stars that appear in these shadowy tales of crime and punishment: BULLETS OR BALLOTS, CITY FOR CONQUEST, EACH DAWN I DIE, 'G' MEN, SAN QUENTIN, and A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER. Bullets or Ballots ; A Bronx cop goes undercover so he can tip the police off to the mob's illicit activities. Bigwig businessmen and slimy politicos are in it up to their necks and they take a fall, too. A really good gangster picture, based on a true story. City for Conquest ; Based on the novel by Aben Kandel, CITY FOR CONQUEST tells the heartbreaking but hopeful tale of Danny Kenny (James Cagney) and Peggy Nash (Ann Sheridan), two sweethearts who meet and struggle through their impoverished lives on the Lower East Side of New York City. When Peggy, hoping for something better in life for both of them, breaks off her engagement to Danny, he sets out to be a championship boxer, while she becomes a dancer in a nightclub (with sleazy partner Murray, as played by the commanding Anthony Quinn). However, tragedy soon strikes and it appears that the two might never be reunited. With a beautiful, ironic ending, excellent dialogue, and strong, poignant performances, CITY FOR CONQUEST is one of director Anatole Litvak's most inspired films. Each Dawn I Die ; A reporter, framed and sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit, befirends a mobster in the pen. Half of the story is completely implausible but Cagney's performance is superb. G-Men ; In 1931, James Cagney helped jump-start the gangster genre as The Public Enemy. In 1935, he waged on-screen war against the nation's public enemies. Outcries against movies that glorified underworld criminals put Cagney on the side of the law in 'G' Men. Emphasis may have changed but elements are the same. 'G' Men builds to a fury of bold escapes, siren-wailing pursuits and frenzied shootouts. 'Anything worth newspaper space is worth a movie, ' Warner Bros. executive Lou Edelman declared. Here, a punchy hot-off-the-presses account of the pursuit and capture of John Dillinger provides the story inspiration as tough-guy Cagney gives it to 'em good in a movie that's 'fast, gutsy, as simplistic and powerful as a tabloid headline' (Geoff Andrew, Time Out Film Guide). San Quentin ; Do the crime, do the time. But what happens during the long years spent behind the walls of San Quentin? The penitentiary's new yard captain wants to make those years a time of rehabilitation rather than punishment. But not everyone's buying it. 'He's just another copper to me, ' snarls inmate Red Kennedy. Humphrey Bogart portrays Red, continuing his climb to stardom in this brisk film that's one of a string of Depression-era works combining gangster-movie elements with a Big House setting. Stud
